Grinding of Teeth

2025-03-17T11:29:15

Grinding of teeth happens to a majority of people and most of the time at night. We can see in this video the wear pattern of the upper and lower teeth and how they fit together like puzzle pieces. Now taking a look at the teeth with the mouthguard and the teeth are protected. The goal of a mouthguard isn’t to make anyone stop grinding (that’s a different issue), the goal is to 1. protect teeth from wearing each other 2. reducing the resistance of teeth grinding against each other. In some cases, there is asymmetrical wear of teeth because of how teeth are aligned. When teeth are well aligned, there are fewer teeth that would get worn out. Often times we need to do a comprehensive exam to determine the best next steps. If you’re wondering if a mouthguard or nightguard is right for you.
